Magnolia Athletes Street, Chapman Named Athletes of the Week

This weeks athlete of the week goes to a pair of Magnolia athletes. Chase Street scored three TDs en route to a 120-yard night in helping Magnolia defeat River to stay unbeaten in four games.

Kelsi Chapman, a Blue Eagle volleyball player scored 21-points, including nine service aces and three blocks in wins over John Marshall and Weir. She also added eight kills against the Lady Monarchs, and scored four points and made 11 kills in the loss to Clay-Battelle all in one night at John Marshall High School.

Special Mention went to Paden City senior Cydney Blatt. She recorded 20 points, five digs and belted 19 kills in a win over the Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs, while the Pilots freshman setter Lauren Flannery dished out a career-high 31 assists, four digs, two kill and scored 10 points.

Another special mention candidate is Aaron Heasley of Paden City. Heasley relieved starter Hayden Hizer at quarterback in the second half due to an injury. Heasley in his first season as a football player let alone the first time behind center, tossed three touchdowns and threw for 159-yards.

Honorable Mention went to Magnolia freshman Breanna Barbera. She rose to the occasion and was the top Blue Eagle runner with her personal best time of 22:42.80 in a field of well over 178 female runners in the annual Chick-fil-A Invitational in Mineral Wells Sept. 12.

Also Ariel Fish and Abbie Fletcher combined for 57 kills, 22 blocks, 31 digs and 59-points and three aces this week against Wirt, Ravenswood, Parkersburg Catholic and River.

The Athlete of the Week is given to an area’s top athlete chosen by the sports staff at Wetzel Chronicle and the Tyler Star News. The winners can only claim athlete of the week once in that sport throughout the season.

Schools that will have a chance to win are Magnolia, Tyler Consolidated, Paden City, Valley High School, Hundred and River High Schools.
