River’s Jensen Caretti was one dig away from a quadruple-double, 11 points, 16 kills, 14 blocks and nine digs, but it wasn’t quite enough to get by Magnolia Sept. 10 inside a very loud R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

In set one, both the home-standing Pilots and Eagles had their chances to win late in the game, but the Eagles out-lasted the Pilots, 27-25. The same scenario happened in set two, but the Big Blue put it all together late in the match to win, 25-21.

The third set was all Lady Pilots, as they engineered a 15-25 victory, however the Eagles regrouped and went on to gain a 25-13 victory to win the match.

For the hosts, Haylee Winkler tallied 21 points, one ace and blocked two shots, while Brissa Marshall bumped up 34 digs and scored three service points.

In addition, Madison Harman tacked on six points and a dig, while Lauren Flannel dished out a team-high 14 assists, blocked a shot and scored five points. Candace and Bailey Caldwell scored four and three points, respectively, with Bailey adding four digs and kills, while Candace passed out two assists.

For the Lady Eagles, Bailey Step dished out 49 assists, while scoring eight points and belting four kills. Kelli Chapman stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 11 points, that included seven service aces. She also contributed eight kills and bumped up five digs, while Grace Beriberi and Sierra Fowler each landed three aces on seven markers. Beriberi also contributed one kill and four digs, while Fowler added 11 kills, two digs and blocked a shot.

In addition, Taylor Ludwig added three kills and two digs, while Logan Riggs contributed five points, one kill, block and dig. Evan Step blasted a season-high 21 kills and blocked three Lady Pilot shots.

Magnolia will make way down the river tonight to Paden City in a junior varsity triangular match, while the Pilots junior varsity team will visit Tyler Consolidated.
