At their June 1 regular meeting, The Wetzel County Board of Education honored the Magnolia High School Boy’s basketball team for their accomplishments during the 2014-2015 season, most of all being West Virginia Class A State Champions. Pictured are the following teammates who were present at the June 1 meeting: Zach Haught, Tyler Anderson, Pao Halligina, Tyler Williamson, Mitch Winters, Derrick Blain, Brooks Parsons, Preston Boswell, Kyle Ritz, along with Assistant Superintendent Jay Yeager, Head Coach Dave Tallman, and Coaches Mark Blair and Larry West. Not present were Spencer Campbell and Dylan Jackson, who were also commended for a great basketball season.

Coach Dave Tallman expressed pride in his team, stating that they were also mentally tough with all the obstacles they encountered throughout the season, which included a Coach Blair’s heart attack. Tallman said part of Blair’s therapy for recovery was the motivation to get back to his team.

Tallman expressed appreciation in Coach Larry West, explaining that West did everything that he asked him to do.

Tallman thanked the board, including Yeager, for their support. Tallman stated that if Yeager didn’t make the right decision regarding school closings, it would affect what the basketball team could accomplish.
