Kocher Homers to Pace ’Jacks

In regular season baseball action May 1, the homestanding Valley Lumberjacks prevailed 10-5 over Doddridge County on 10 hits and two errors.

Doddridge score a run in the first and third, but Valley tied it up in the third, 2-2. The ‘Jacks got two more runs in the fifth inning and closed the deal with six runs in the sixth frame to Doddridge County’s three runs.

Leading the offense were Tyler Kocher, who homered, singled twice and plated four and Trey Streets, who delivered on two singles, a triple and three RBIs, while highjacking four bases.

Streets also came in the fourth to strike out three and walk four, while winning pitcher Pete Shaw came in relief in the sixth with two walks.

Shaw also scored a run. Starting hurler Colby Bucher struck out two and walked as many. Bucher contributed an RBI.

Taylor Bates, scoring two runs and an RBI double; Liam Midcap, with two singles and two runs and Peyton Palmer, with a single, an RBI and three stolen bases. The win raised Valley to 4-13 on the season.

Valley’s Peyton Palmer struck out six St. John batters and plated three runs on a single and a double, but it wasn’t quite enough to get past St. John in baseball action in Bellaire April 30.

Valley held a 5-4 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Irish put up four runs in the bottom half to take the lead. The ‘Jacks responded with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth to grab a 9-8 advantage heading into the bottom of the seventh, where they scored two runs to win the game 11-8.

Taylor Bates added three singles, while Trey Streets drilled a pair of doubles to pace the Lumberjack attack.
