Ice Skater Adopts New Martinsville As Home Town

Meredith Baurer

Meredith Bauer, an ice skater who lives in Novi, Mich., calls New Martinsville her adopted hometown.

That’s because both sets of her great grandparents, Juanita and the late Howard Cousten and Allen “Chick” Litman, have been long time residents of this city.

In addition, her grandparents, Gerald and Candy Litman, are graduates of Magnolia High School.

Meredith has visited New Martinsville many times with her mother and father, Rick and Heather Bauer.

She has been skating for 15 years and currently competes freestyle at the Junior Ladies level and also skates for the Novi High School skating team, where she was the Michigan State Champion last year at her level.

Most recently, she has become involved in synchronized skating with Team Allegro Open Juvenile, whose successful season concluded with a first-place finish in the 2015 Midwest Open Juvenile Championship.

“It’s nice to know people back in Novi are pulling for me, but I also have friends and family rooting for me in New Martinsville. I’m pretty lucky to have such a great support system. Thanks everybody!”

Upon graduation, Meredith plans to attend Western Michigan University and skate for the WMU Broncos.
