Valley Lumberjacks Beat Tyler In Sectional Opener, 7-4
Valley’s Brandon Stoneking held Tyler Consolidated to four runs on eight hits in leading his team to a 7-4 win over the Silver Knights May 13 in the WVSSAC Class-A Region I, Section I opener. In addition, Stoneking struck out seven and walked three in a complete game that saw four Lumberjacks score multiple hits
Valley scored two runs in the first, but the Silver Knights cut the deficit in half in the third frame. However, the ‘Jacks’ Lumber pounded out 11 hits, led by Peyton Palmer’s two hits and three RBIs. Colby Bucher plated two runs with a pair of base hits and Hayden Lancaster and Taylor Bates each singled twice, while Dusty Lowe belted a double. Stoneking and Caleb Palmer each lined a single.
The win pushes the Lumberjack win total to six games, while the loss dropped Tyler to 9-12.
Both teams committed a dozen fielding errors with the Knights on the top end, with eight miscues.
They lost their next two games, against St. Marys and Tyler, knocking them out of the tournament.
