‘Cats Play For H.I.T. Div.II Title Saturday

The Paden City Lady Wildcats will play for the Division II Home Town Invitational (H.I.T.) Championship Saturday, Feb. 1, inside St. Marys High School Gymnasium at 7 p.m.

This is the second-straight visit for the Lady ‘Cats in the Championship contest. They lost, 52-22 in the finals last season to Buffalo Putnam, but have come into the finals this season with something to prove. They are 7-5 on the season and have won three of their last four games, including an impressive 64-35 victory over Van and a 57-36 victory over Valley Fayette in the H.I.T. tournament to get to the finals against Doddridge.

Doddridge lost its first four games of the season, but since then they have won every other game, including a 56-44 win over Meadowbridge and a 50-40 victory over the Lady Dragons of Cameron to come into the tournament championship, 4-8.

West Virginia X-Factor and Wheeling resident Kaydon Hardman will get the party started by singing our National Anthem, and at halftime, some lucky person will win a four-day, three-night vacation to Myrtle Beach.

The Division I Championship will end the festivities at 9 p.m. with the defending champions, St. Marys Blue Devils taking on the winner of Pocahontas County and Gilmer. That game was to be played Tuesday after the Chronicle went to press.

The Wheeling Nailers Mascot Spike will also be on hand to greet fans and give away some Nailer tickets, while McDonald’s Hamburgler and Wendy’s Wendy will also be on hand to meet and greet fans of all ages the entire evening.

However, the rest of the Division II teams will start the finals games of the tournament on Friday at 5 p.m. with Montcalm taking on our Valley Lumberjills, while our Lady Hornets will tangle with Van at 6:45 p.m. Union will finish the evening with a game against Cameron at 8:30 p.m.

Games on Saturday will start at 8:30 a.m. with Midland Trail against Tug Valley, while Richwood and East Hardy will collide at 10:15 a.m. At noon, Fayetteville will face Sherman, and at 1:45 p.m. Buffalo will take on the Lady Cee-Bees of Clay-Battelle.

The Division II consolation game will pit Valley Fayette taking on Meadowbridge at 3:30 p.m., while the Division II Consolation game will be Tygarts Valley taking on Gilmer County at 5:15 p.m.

Action Images will be on hand for the entire tournament taking outstanding pictures, and will showcase all their pictures they take in the hallways.
