The River Pilots Wrestling Team improved to 5-1 on the season, beating the previously undefeated Magnolia Blue Eagles, 42-33 Dec. 28 inside R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

The Pilots opened the dual with solid pinfalls in the 132, 138, and 145 weight classes by Josh Stewart, Loren Thomas, and Bailey Reusser, respectively, over Blue Eagle opponents, Tristen Thomas, Robert Campbell, and Joseph Layman.

The Blue Eagles’ Joey Kelly stopped the bleeding in the 152 weight class with a pinfall over the Pilots’ Michael Taylor. However, Pilots Jordan Sapp won 7-1 over Magnolia’s Paden McConaughey, and Kole Smith pinned his Blue Eagle opponent in 58 seconds of the opening period.

Magnolia’s Caleb Nice defeated Brandon Ruesser 10-3 in an outstanding match, before Pilots Dakota Dunn and Brett Rosen picked up victories.

Phillip Harlan of the Eagles took care of the Pilots’ Collin Huffman by a pinfall, then Magnolia’s Trinton Jett and Riley Nice each picked up easy victories by forfeit.

Chase Schultheis got the better of the Blue Eagle Doug Riter in a 13-10 decision that could have gone either way. The Eagles’ Clay Adams won the final match of the dual with a pinfall over Dakota Smith in the 126 pound weight class. Harley Price of the Eagles won his exhibition match with a fall.
