Lady Pilots Go 3-5 Against MHS

The Lady Pilots won three out of five sets against the Magnolia Lady Eagles at New Martinsville Oct. 7, winning 25-14, 25-23 and 17-15. Mackenzie Marshall scored 21 points that included three aces and added six digs.

Jensen Caretti followed in scoring with 16 points that included two aces and added 17 kills, six blocks and five digs, while Amanda Bennett added another 15 points that included one bullet. She also had two kills one assist and as many digs.

Two of Monica Curtis’ 13 points were from the service line. She also had 23 assists, four blocks and seven digs, while Mackenzie Wade added seven points, one ace point and seven digs. Mikayla Cieszeski, River’s only senior, laid in seven kills and two digs, while Brissa Marshall added five digs and Bailey Caldwell had two digs.

The Lady Pilots were ranked #3 in OVAC Class 2A, while the Lady Eagles were ranked #2 in Class 3A.

Oct. 3, Shenandoah

River lost in three sets to the Shenandoah Lady Zeps Oct. 3, 25-9, 25-16 and 25-15, at Shenandoah. Amanda bennett led the Lady Pilot offense in scoring with 11 points, a block and a dig.

Mackenzie Wade registered seven points and 11 digs, while Jensen Caretti and Mackenzie Marshall each added six points and each an ace point. Caretti recorded nine kills, five blocks and as many digs for the Lady Pilots, while Marshall tallied a kill and 11 digs.

Monica Curtis finished River’s scoring with three points to go along with nine assists and 10 digs. Abby Caldwell and Brielle Williams aided the River cause with five and seven digs, respectively, and Mikayla Cieszeski had two blocks and two digs.

Oct. 1, Senior Night

The Lady Pilots started October with a 3-5 win over Monroe Central at Hannibal during senior night and Cure For Cancer night. Falling in two sets to the Lady Seminoles, 25-7 and 25-15, the Lady Pilots won three sets 25-19, 25-21 and 15-10.

Jensen Caretti and Amanda Bennett each fired off 15 points that included two and three aces, respectively. Caretti also generated 20 kills, two blocks and 11 digs on the night, while Bennett added a kill and three digs.

Mackenzie Marshall and Mackenzie Wade put up 13 points apiece for the Pilots. Wade’s stats included two aces and 11 digs, while Marshall added 22 digs of her own.

AbbyCaldwell contributed eight points and 11 digs, while Monica Curtis added another eight points on the night and threw in 29 assists and 14 digs. Mikayla Cieszeski helped River’s effort with three kills, two blocks and a dig and Briele Williams had seven kills and went digging nine times.
