CC Teams Compete At Meadowbrook
Several Ohio Valley high school cross country teams competed at the OVAC Cross Country Championships at Meadowbrook High School on Oct. 5, including Magnolia, Paden City, and River.
In the high school girls competition, the overall OVAC team championship went to the Morgantown team who finished four runners in the top 12 to gain 60 points for the overall win.
University placed second with 81 points; Caldwell scored 101; Fort Frye, 146; Parkersburg South, 157; St. John Central, 165; Oak Glen placed seventh with 197; Bellaire, 203; Shadyside, 205; Martins Ferry, 212; St. Clairsville, 316; Linsly, 345; Tyler Consolidated (13th) 346; John Marshall, 385; Cambridge, 395; Wheeling Park, 434; Union Local, 443; Magnolia (18th), 455; River, 484; and Barnesville, 549.
Lady Eagle sophomore Ariel Hostettler crossed the finish line in 71st position of the 175 participants in the competition with a time of 23:10.06. Sophomore Sofia Herrick placed 83rd in 23:32.72; followed by team mates: Rachel Arbrogast, 115th, 24:42.75; Shelby Sands, 123rd, 25:08.45; Katie Ensinger, 147th, 27:17.17; and sophomore Evan Dawson in the 160th slot with a time of 30:03.34.
The Lady Wildcats were paced by junior Kayla Hizer finishing in 75th place with a time of 23:21.12. Sophomore Chelsea Dennis placed 161st with a time of 30:07.62; senior Morgan Goddard finished 168th in 31:11.17; and Shelby Gatian finished 170th in 31:58.97.
For the Lady Pilots, it was senior Landyn Ramsay finishing first for the team and 78th overall in 23:42.43. Makenna Collins finished 110th in 24:34.36; Gabby Goudy, 122nd, 25:06.27; Becka Stewart, 127th, 25:29.05; Alex Karpacs, 142nd, 26:45.68; and freshman Kara Dotterer placed 148th turning in a time of 27:23.44.
In the high school boys division at the OVAC championships, University took first place with 45 points. Caldwell placed second overall in the team division with 91 points, followed by Morgantown with 102; Wheeling Park, 165; Fort Frye, 169;St. Clairsville 184; Indian Creek, 211; John Marshall, 232; Oak Glen, 247; East Liverpool, 256; St. John Central, 307; Martins Ferry, 311; Brooke, 369; Parkersburg South, 373; Trinity Christian, 376; Union Local, 436; Wheeling Central, 447; Cambridge, 483; Harrison Central, 498; Shadyside, 511; Linsly, 562; Barnesville, 565; Paden City, 599; and River, 630.
Junior Jacob Pancake placed first of the two athletes for Magnolia, finishing 51st overall in 18:07.55. Junior David McIlvain placed 129th overall in 19:55.06.
Junior Dean Frye paced the Paden City boys, finishing first for the team and 106th over all in 19:32.54. Freshman Cade Crislip completed the race in 135th position with a time of 20:04.24; Travis Leonard finished 146th in 20:18.38; Jacob Pierce, 166th, 20:57.98; Tyler Kiger, 172nd, 21:12.02; and Aaron Heasley finished in 210th place in 24:01.06.
For the River Pilots, senior Kole Smith finished the event with a time of 19:36.72 in 111st position. Chase Brown placed 156th in 20:33.59; Noah Ramsay, 162nd, 20:54.31; Michael Collins, 164th, 20:56.91; Daniel Fisher, 180th, 21:24.24; and sophomore Hunter Richmond crossed the finish line in 207th place with a time of 23:34.80.
