MHS Wins OV Golf League Championship

The Magnolia Blue Eagle Golf Team came in with the winning score of 335 Sept. 20 in the Ohio Valley Golf League Championship at Moundsville Country Club. Medalist Peyton Moore shot a 71, followed by Matthew Durig with an 86. Derik Blain turned in an 87, while Jake Starkey recorded a 91 for Magnolia.

River High School captured the third-place slot out of 11 teams entered. Pilot Isaac Curtis led his team with an 87, while Blaze Amos and Brandon Smith each shot 91. Ryan Ludolph finished River’s scoring with a 95.

Magnolia placed second in a five-school tournament at the par 34 Sistersville Country Club Sept. 18 with a team score of 190. Tyler Consolidated came in third and Paden City was in fifth place with a 213.

Moore led the Blue Eagles with a 43. Starkey scored a 43, Durig shot a 49, Blain turned in a 55 and Shane Mason had a 59.

For the Wildcats, Levi Meadows led his team with a 48, Jeremy Mercer shot a 53, Zach Heasley scored a 55, Dean Frye scored a 57, Kalob Byers shot 61 and Dezsirae Middleton had a 73.

Earlier, Magnolia’s team turned in a 160 to win against Bishop Donahue, Barnesville, Shadyside and Bellaire St. John at Powhattan Point’s Clair-Mar course. Moore had a team-low 38 to lead the Blue Eagles. Other MHS scores included: Starkey, 41; Blain, 40; Durig, 42; Mason, 41; and Logan Massey, 48.
