Lumberjills Struggle In Week 3

The Lumberjills dropped 3-0 to Weirton Madonna Sept. 23, 25-9, 25-14 and 25-21 in Lumberjill territory. Bre Harris scored a team-high six points and added a spike, while Whitney Haught added three points for Valley. Haught also had three digs, two spikes and a dink.

Cassidy Price contributed three points that included an ace and added two spikes. Summer Briggs sent two points to the scoreboard to go along with a dig and a spike.

Sarah Bassett, Rachel Baker and Maggie Hornbeck each scored a point, with Bassett adding a block and two dinks. Baker had six spikes, two blocks and a kill, while Hornbeck added a dig.

Others generating stats for the ‘Jills were Erin Brown, three digs and as many spikes, six blocks and a kill; Grace Hayes, a dig and a dink; Sammi Roberts, six digs; and Bailea Underwood helped her team with a dig.

Valley won two games against Clarksburg Notre Dame Sept.19, 25-9 and 25-17, but fell 2-0 to Paden City at Pine Grove. Baker led the offensive charge against ND with 12 points that included an ace, one dig and as many dinks.

Harris rang up six points, two via service, and a dig, while Underwood and Price each scored three points for Valley. Two of Underwood’s points were bullets and she added two spikes to her stats. Price had one dink and as many kills plus four spikes.

Brown and Bassett each added a point, with Brown adding seven spikes and two dinks. Roberts added a point, two digs and a spike, while Briggs contributed a point and a dig. Haught completed Valley’s scoring with four points that included two aces, plus a kill.

Against the Lady ‘Cats, Bassett had three points and a spike and Price added three points that included an aces. Brown spiked two and blocked 11 to go along with her one point. Haught spiked four and added two points for the home team, while Baker added one point, two digs and as many spikes and dinks. She also blocked five attempts by Paden City.

The Lumberjills fell in three sets against River Sept. 18, 25-14 and two sets 25-18, at Hannibal. Bassett led Valley’s scoring with seven points and seven assists, while Baker scored five points and 10 blocks. Underwood and Briggs each sent in four points, while Haught and Roberts scored three points each and Brown had nine kills.

The ‘Jills’ next court appearance was to have been yesterday after press time at Cameron.
