Lady ‘Cat Volleyball Team Continues Winning Streak

The Paden City Lady ‘Cats continued their hot streak Sept. 12 by defeating Beallsville 25-12, 25-20 and 25-12 at Paden City. Cydney Blatt was high scorer for Paden City with 16 points that included three bullets. Blatt also rendered eight kills and two digs.

Megan Pierce served an ace point to go along with 15 others, while adding eight kills and two blocks. Myah Charkawi had four aces with her 14 points, six digs and a kill and Haley Hizer’s 12 points included two by service. Hizer added two digs and six kills.

Taylor Cosper and Graeson Baker each turned in nine points with three total aces. Cosper stepped up with 25 assists, two kills and a dig, while Baker had two kills, four assists, two blocks and a dig.

Kallie Arnett made four kills and as many blocks, while Abbi Still produced two digs.

“Our match with Beallsville showed that we have improved somewhat,” said Head Volleyball Coach Fred King. “But the girls realize we have to address some issues in practice as we head toward conference championships.”

Paden City won two sets against Madonna Sept. 10, 15-23 and 25-21, but fell in a third set, 25-22. Pierce was high scorer with 16 points. She also contributed 11 kills, two blocks and as many digs.

Charkawi and Baker followed in the point stats, each with 12 markers and two aces. Charkawi added a kill and 23 digs, while Baker had two kills and 10 digs. Haley Hizer added 10 kills, four blocks and a dig to go along with her 11 points.

Blatt and Taylor Cosper scored 10 points each, with Cosper’s including two aces. Cosper also assisted 30 times, added a kill and two digs. Blatt had four digs and seven kills.

Also helping with the Lady ‘Cat cause were freshmen Madison Kelly, one dig; Abbi Still, three digs; and sophomore Dezirae Middleton four digs and Kallie Arnett with four kills and as many blocks.

Paden City went 2-1 with Wheeling Central, winning two sets 25-21 and 25-11, while losing a third set 25-16, in Wheeling Sept. 11. Cosper led the ‘Cat scoring with 16 points that included two aces. She added 20 assists and a kill.

Pierce scored 15 points with an ace and two kills, while Charkawi loaded 11 points that included two from the service line. She also had four digs and two kills. Hizer had eight points plus an ace, an assist and a block.

Blatt marked up six points with an ace and added six kills and a block. Kelly had one block and Middleton had a dig.

The Lady ‘Cats were 1-3 against Bishop Donahue Sept. 10, dropping two 25-18 and 25-16 and winning a third set 25-13 in Bishop country. Pierce paced the scoring with 15 markers that included two aces. She added four kills and a dig.

Hizer marked up 12 points with two aces, three digs, a block and six kills. Baker also had 12 points with two aces, four digs and a kill. Charkawi led in the digging column with 19, while adding two kills and scoring eight points that included three from the service line.

Cosper and Blatt completed the Lady ‘Cat scoring with seven and five points, respectively, each with an ace. Cosper had two kills to go along with Blatt’s nine and each had three digs.

Also contributing to the Paden City win were Abbi Still, three digs; Dezirae Middleton, four digs and Kallie Arnett with three kills and four blocks.

In a game against Weirton Madonna the same day, Paden City won two sets, 15-23 and 25-21, but fell in a third set, 25-22. Pierce was high scorer with 16 points. She also contributed 11 kills, two blocks and as many digs.

Earlier in the month, the Lady ‘Cats swept a three-set match against the Valley Lumberjills 25-10, 25-3 and 25-6 at Paden City.

Pierce led all scorers with 17 markers that included an ace, throwing on four kills and two digs. Cosper followed in scoring with 16 that included one by service. She added 16 assists and two kills, while Hizer scored 13 points, three kills and two digs.

Charkawi and Blatt each marked up seven points that included an ace each. Charkawi made six digs, Blatt made one and Middleton also had a dig.

The Paden City Lady ‘Cats were two for two Sept. 4 against county rival Hundred, winning 25-16 and 25-17 in Bob Burton Gymnasium. Pierce, Baker and Charkawi each scored 11 points for Paden City, including three aces for Baker and two for Charkawi.

In addition Pierce, added a dig, while Baker added one kill, three assists and two digs. Two of Charkawi’s points were by service ace and she had seven digs.

Cosper scored eight points, including two aces, while assisting 18 times and Hizer added seven points that included an ace, five kills and a dig. Blatt sent in two points, four kills and a dig. Arnett had five kills.
