Area High School Wrestling Events Are Detailed For The Week
The Tyler Consolidated wrestling team only won a pair of bouts, and Magnolia tallied five victories, but the Silver Knights took three bouts because of forfeits to claim a 30-28 victory Dec. 14 at Magnolia.
Four of the first five events were double forfeits before the Blue Eagles’ Joey Kelly, 138 lbs., defeated Ralph Bailes by a technical fall in the third period, 15-1, for the first Magnolia victory.
Shayne Harmon, 145 lbs., and Gage Deem, 152 lbs., defeated their Silver Knight opponents by first-period falls before an Eagle forfeit. The Knights won two of the next three by technical falls before Jared Wright, 195 lbs., won by a fall for Magnolia.
After another MHS forfeit, the Eagles’ Tyler Baker, 285 lbs., defeated Cecil Spencer by a fall in the opening period.
“We competed hard and won 5-7 matches that we competed in and have done quite well to start the season off,” said MHS Head Wrestling Coach Jeff Hiestand.
In the Annual Tyler Consolidated Silver Knights Wrestle-A-Bout, Parkersburg South won with 148 points; River finished third with 76 points; Magnolia, placed fifth with 41 points; and Tyler Consolidated, with 37 points, finished seventh in a field of 12 teams.
The Pilots’ Devin Talbott at 132 lbs. won a 10-0 major decision over Weir Red Rider Hunter McLaughlin, while teammates Kole Smith, 160 lbs., and JD Dotson, 195 lbs., each won their respective weight divisions with falls.
Other second-place finishers were Tyler’s John Brosky, 120 lbs.; Magnolia’s Joey Kelley, 145 lbs.; and Gage Deem, 145 lbs.; and River’s Skylar Wohnhas and Shain Livada.
Taking the third spot in the Wrestle-A-Bout were Dakota Allen, 220 lbs; and Levi Henderson, 170 lbs., both of Tyler Consolidated.
In fourth place were River Pilots Cody Binni, 120 lbs.; and Fred Mondt III, 145 lbs.; and Blue Eagle Tyler Baker, 285 lbs.
