‘Cats Claim Sectional Title

By Staff | Nov 10, 2011

The Paden City Lady Cats faced Wheeling Central in the West Virginia Class-A Sectional volleyball championships at Bob Burton Gymnasium Oct. 31 and Nov. 2.

The Wildcats made quick work of the Maroon Knights, winning 25-9, 25-16, and 25-9 to advance to the championship match against Weirton Madonna.

PC was led by two senior hitters, Amanda Heasley and Dominique Craft. They combined to score 43 points, including six service aces, while making the Lady Knights gun-shy at the net with 29 kills, 15 blocks, and 14 digs, that included some amazing dinks.

Graeson Baker tacked on 14 points and six digs, while Kelsey Loy added 11 points, including one service ace, five kills, and five digs. Lynnsie Parsons netted two points, three kills, and 12 digs.

Off the bench, Amber Neff tallied a point, while Megan Pierce had a kill. Josie Fox and Hillary Hizer chipped in with nine and six digs, respectively, while Tori Anderson added a dig.

Madonna open the championship match serving, while Heasley got the ‘Cats on the scoreboard first with a nasty kill. Heasley would add an ace and Craft would tack on a cross court kill and a spike that would be blocked out of bounds to give the Wildcats a 4-0 lead.

Weirton then blocked another PC spike that would have earned Madonna a point, but Craft smacked three kills in the next four tries to push the Wildcats’ lead to 7-2. Weirton later scored four straight points before the home team won a long volley.

Heasley and Parsons each added kills, but with the help of two service aces and a few nice team volleys, the Blue Dons fought back to knot the set at 16, and would take their first lead at 18-17.
