‘Cats Win Third Straight Mason-Dixon Title

After claiming an OVAC Class-A championship early in the month, the Paden City Wildcats Volleyball Team defeated Bishop Donahue and Morgantown Trinity to win their third straight Mason-Dixon Championship at Bob Burton Gymnasium Oct. 29.

The Lady Wildcats defeated Bishop, 25-10 and 25-10 in the semi-finals, before putting the exclamation point to another successful tournament with a 27-25 and 25-18 victory over the Trinity Warriors in the finale.

Dominique Craft recorded 11 points, including one service ace, nine digs, two blocks, and smacked a game-high 11 kills in the semi finals against Bishop, while Amanda Heasley and Kelsey Loy both registered 10 points, including a service ace each, while adding four kills and Loy, four blocks.

Teammates Graeson Baker, Lynnsie Parsons, and Logan Cosper tallied nine, five, and four points, respectively. Cosper added 42 sets and 15 assists, while Baker and Parsons teamed for 10 digs.

In the championship match against Morgantown Trinity, Craft and Baker each netted 13 points to lead the PC charge. Craft committed a felony with 10 violent kills, while adding 10 digs. Baker also had seven digs. Heasley scored nine points, including four service aces and nine digs, while Loy chipped in with eight points and one dig.

In addition, Cosper scored six points and had 22 assists on 55 sets, while Parsons added six points, five kills, and eight digs. Graeson, Haley Hizer, and Josie Fox each recorded digs in the finale.

The Wildcats entered the 2011 Mason-Dixon championships with a 29-8 record and will go into this week’s sectionals with an impressive 31-8 record.
