Wilmoth Wins Tyler Speedway Event

By Staff | Jul 13, 2011

Saturday was Wilson Law Offices presents Dukes of Hazzard night at the Tyler County Speedway and Hometown Hero Wetzel and Marshall County free night. The biggest crowd of the year generously contributed more than $1,400 to long-time race fan and crew member Bruce Pratt to help pay costs of a double lung transplant.

In the Dodd’s Sporting Goods Late Models, Steve Wilmoth and D J Cline grabbed heat victories. As Rich Wilson of Wilson Law Offices waved the green flag, S. Wilmoth shot to the point followed by Cline, Steve Weigle, Corey Conley, and Mike Benedum. Paul Wilmoth Jr. started sixth and motored to fourth by lap four and third by lap eight.

The only yellow came out on lap eight when Ron Deitch rolled to a stop in turn four, When racing resumed, S. Wilmoth turned up the wick and drove away from the field, as Cline, P. Wilmoth, and Butch McGill at times ran three wide for second.

By the half-way mark, S. Wilmoth commanded a full straight away lead. The laps clicked off as Wilmoth continued to run away from the field and McGill laid claim to second with three circuits to go.

When the checkers flew, Wilmoth in the Phoenix Drilling/Braedon Drilling #S1 was the winner with McGill second. Cline, P. Wilmoth, and Weigle completed the top four.

After the second attempt at green, the United Rental Industrial Division FASTRAK Late Models saw Derek Doll, Shaun Jett, Daniel Hill, John Watson, and Jacob Lash quickly fill the top five slots. With only three cautions slowing action, Doll was never challenged.

The Greenwood driver led flag to flag to put the Cell Accessories/Perkins Supply sponsored machine into victory lane for the third time this season. Jett, Hill, Kris Southern (from 14th), and Kyle Thomas (from 10th) were the rest of the top four.

For the third time this year, the Bridgeport Equipment and Tool Modifieds had a son/father finish. After leading the first three circuits, Mark Dickson was passed by son Travis in the A-M Commodities/Fannin Farms #16, en route to his class-leading fourth win.

Mike Wilson pressured M. Dickson, but had to settle for third. In his first outing, Donnie Nething finished fourth. And in his first visit, Josh Pyers finished fifth.

Devin Verardi, driving his Wheeling Tire/Lisa’s Hair Um sponsored car, drove wire to wire out front to capture his second Sigler Fabrication Hot Mod feature. Kurt Burge, Lou Ennis, Mike Conkle, Anastasia Jones were second through fifth, respectively.

In one of his rare appearances, Tracy Fritter — driving the Superior sponsored #29S — snagged the point at the outset and held off heavy pressure from Brandon Fluharty to claim his first Herrington Ford/Pre Owned Auto Mod Lite finale. Beau Newlon crossed in third. Josh Baldwin and Mitch Ward were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Donnie Wamsley won the Wells Inn/Champion Sport Cards & Trophies Eco Flyer 4 Cylinders for the fourth time. The East Gate Used Cars/Barbie’s Day Care sponsored car bested Billy Bunnell, Bill Doll, Josh Fulks, and Justin Freeland.

As usual, the Outlaw Graphics & Automotive Services Mini Wedges set the tone for the night with a whale of a show up front. Kaitlyn Frazier picked up her first winning trophy (sponsored by Gary and Penny Midcap) ahead of Trey Watson, Hunter Partridge, and Shayla Griffey.

This week at the Bullring, the Hometown Heroes program continues with a free night for residents of Ritchie and Pleasants counties.
