NWTF Calling Contest Scheduled

The West Virginia Northern Panhandle Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be hosting a sanctioned calling contest at Cabela’s in Wheeling Aug. 20. Registration at 9 a.m., contest at 11a.m. No entry fee required. Must be a member of the NWTF. Prize of $300 for first place in open and friction, $200 for first place in amateur, and $100 first place for juniors age15 and younger. Plaques and other prizes also will be awarded.

Calls in the open category are: cutting of excited hen; fly down cackle; adult hen assembly call; best call;

In friction: kee-kee run; cluck and purr; adult hen assembly call; best call;

Amateur: adult hen assembly; cutting of excited hen; plain yelp of hen; best call; and

Junior: plain yelp of a hen; yelp of excited hen; cluck; and best call.
