Eagles Win Sectional Title
The Blue Eagles’ Justin “Tank” Fox had a no-hitter broken up when Silver Knights Zach Knowlton and Dalton Parsons hit back-to-back singles May 10 at Kidwell. However, it was his only blemish of the night as the Eagles advanced to the Region One Semi-finals with a 17-0 shutout.
Fox struck out 11 straight Tyler Consolidated batters via strike outs and 13 othere were sat down before the two Knight singles. Fox finished the game with 13 strike outs and didn’t walk a batter.
In the meanwhile, the Magnolia bats were red hot, pounding out 20 hits and scoring 19 runs. Magnolia tallied 14 runs in the first two innings before adding four runs in the third and one in the fifth before the game was stopped by the mercy rule.
Fox and Jordan Moore each had four hits for the Big Blue. Fox lined two singles and drilled a pair of doubles while knocking in three runs. Moore hit for the cycle, (single, double, triple, and home run) while plating six runs.
Eagle teammate Traeh Keller singled and doubled twice, while Cameron Benson blasted a two-run homer out of the park. In addition, Tanner Hanna added a pair of singles; Matt Sapp doubled; Ryan Walton and Drew Simmons and singled twice and drove in a run.
The next step for the Eagles will be to face Oak Glen in the regional semi-final May 24 at 5 p.m. on Mullett Field in New Martinsville. The winner will advance to the Region I Championship to be played on the winner’s home diamond on Thursday, May 29.
