Magnolia 9, Tyler 1

The Lady Blue Eagles swept Tyler Consolidated in the Region I Sectional I Championship by the scores of 11-3 and 9-1 May 5 at Hydro Field in New Martinsville.

In the opener, Magnolia’s Tori Tharp was in command on the hill, tossing a 7-0 one-hitter in the top of the sixth with two outs. That’s when the Lady Silver Knights crossed the plate three times on three infield singles and a Blue Eagle blunder.

However, that must have hit a nerve, as the Eagles pounced on the Knights with four runs, aided by some Consolidated miscues, to gain the nod.

Mallory Chapman had the big hit of the game with a home run, while Tharp held her own on the mound tossing a four hitter. She struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter.

In the second game of a best-of-three sectional, Chapman was in complete control from the mound, hurling a two-hitter in a 9-1 victory.

Chapman struck out five and walked a pair to get the win. Magnolia was paced by a pair of Tharp doubles and two Jordan Babe singles.

The Lady Eagles will now move to the regional semis against Weir Thursday May 12 at 3 p.m. at the Hydro Field.
