The Blue Eagle team congrats Jordan Moore after hitting a home run

Magnolia 9, Tyler 0

Magnolia’s Kyle Elliott struck out 13 Silver Knight batters on his way to a complete game, five-hit, 9-0 victory in Region I sectional play over Tyler Consolidated May 9 at George Mullett Field.

The Knights started the game off with their lead-off batter reaching first on a throwing error by Elliott. However, Elliott struck out two and Traeh Keller threw out a Knight runner trying to steal.

In the Eagles’ opening frame, Justin Fox grounded out and Elliott struck out. Jordan Moore was hit by a pitch and was thrown out by Knights’ catcher Garrett Amos.

Neither team scored in the second, but the Eagles got on the board with a solo shot by Fox that ended up in the press box on the football field. Neither team scored in the fourth, but the Eagles tallied four in the fifth, high lighted by an Elliott suicide squeeze.

1st out of triple play

The Eagles broke it open in the sixth inning with four more runs, included a two-run homer from Elliott.

While Elliott and Fox each homered, Fox was a triple away for hitting for the cycle. Cameron Benson singled and doubled, knocking in a run, while Chandler Sapp singled, doubled and knocked in four RBIs. Chase “Wiz” Cain doubled for the home team.

Magnolia 10, John Marshall 7

The Magnolia Blue Eagles pulled a rare triple play and Jordan Moore smacked a home run as the Blue Eagles took care of John Marshall May 6 at George Mullett Field in New Martinsville.

The Eagles scored one run in each of the first three innings, high-lighted by Moore’s home run to left center, just out of the reach of the JM left fielder. That gave Magnolia a 3-0 lead for the go-ahead to a 10-7 victory.

2nd out of triple play

Matt Sapp was in cruise control, limiting the Monarchs to a couple hits and three strike outs up to the sixth frame to gain the nod from the hill. Freshman Zach Wilhoite came in relief and was hammered, but Kyle Elliott would calm things down to get the save.

The big triple play came in the fifth, when Sapp had himself in a major jam on a hit with bases loaded. Justin Fox hustled to the outfield from his second base position and made a diving catch to rob the Monarchs of the base hit. He then tossed it to shortstop Elliott at second for the second out, whereupon Elliott relayed it to Drew Simmons at first for the third out.

Besides the home run, Moore added an RBI single and Fox singled, doubled and plated a pair of runs. In addition, Jayson Keller smacked three singles, while Elliott added a two-RBI single and Chase Cain plated a run on his own single.

Magnolia 7, Union Local 11

Union Local came from behind to beat the Magnolia Blue Eagles, 11-7 May 5 at Union Local.

third out of triple play

The Eagles scored at least one run in each of the first five innings, while the Jets’ tallied five runs in the fifth to win a thriller.

Justin Fox had a home run and a single, while Jordan Moore added a solo home run to pace the Blue Eagle offense. In addition, Cameron Benson plated a run with three singles, while Kyle Elliott added a pair of singles and Chandler Sapp knocked in a run with a single.

Fox started from the mound and went six innings, striking out eight and walking three. Sapp took the loss in relief, while Moore finished up.
