Magnolia’s Kacor Setting Tracks On Fire

By Staff | Apr 6, 2011

On March 30, the Magnolia Blue Eagle Boys’ Track Team won the opening session of the WTTL at Tyler Consolidated with 115 total points, while the Silver Knights scored 85 points. River and Paden City finished third and fourth, respectively.

Brendan Kacor rocked the house with a first place finish in the 100 meter run and the long jump, while placing third in the 200 meter run behind winner Alex Doak of Tyler Consolidated and the runner-up, Stephen Rogalski, also of Magnolia. Kacor was also on the 4×100 meter relay with teammates Tanner Fluharty, Timmy Shreves and Gage Rohde.

Besides coming in second to Doak of Tyler in the 200 meter dash, Rogalski won high jump. Shreves blew away his competition in the 400 meter dash, while teammate Nick Blatt placed in front of teammates Alec Hinerman and Billy Feeney, respectively, in the 800 meter run.

Hinerman nosed out Feeney for first in the 1,600 meter run. They both were on the 4×800 meter relay team, along with Hinerman and James Haught, who took first place. Matt Riggs won both the mens’ shot and the discus events, nosing out the Pilots’ Jared Hinkle and Blue Eagle Justin Wade.

In the Boggs Pizza and Grill Classic at Tyler Consolidated April 2, Magnolia won the boys title, beating second place St. Marys by 146-98. Tyler came in fifth with 50 points and the Pilots placed 11th.

Again, it was the relay teams that spring-boarded the Big Blue. The 3,200, 800 and the 400 relay teams all won their respective meets, while the likes of speedster Brendan Kacor placed first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints, and also claimed the long jump title. Rogalski took top honors in the 400 meter run and the high jump, while strongman Matthew Riggs took the gold in the discus and shot-put.

The times and places of other events were not available. However, Magnolia, Tyler, River and Paden City will be competing in the WTTL yesterday. More information on that event in next week’s sports pages.
