Pilots Rally To Claim, 51-47 OT?Victory Over Bulldogs
The River Pilots rallied from a 11-point deficit to force overtime and then made 6-9 free throws to gain a thrilling 51-47 victory over the Bridgeport Bulldogs, March 5 in the Ohio Division IV Co-Sectional finals at Union Local High School.
The Bulldogs raced out to a 13-8 lead after one period of play and extended it to 30-19 at the break, before the Pilots kicked it into high gear and battled back to within a field-goal after three periods of play, and eventually tied the game at 45 with a driving layup by senior Sammy Ramsier.
Nearing the end of regulation, and the Bulldogs up four points, the Pilots’ Jordan Potts would put back a miss and was fouled. However, he missed the shot, but was fouled again while going for the ball. And, once again he would miss-fire on the front end of the bonus.
Bridgeport would try to put the Pilots away, but the Pilots’ Ramsier would grab a rebound and go coast-to-coast to tie the game and send the game into overtime.
In the extra period, the Pilots made four straight charity tosses to take a four-point lead, with the last one coming with only 21 seconds left in overtime. The Bulldogs would cut its deficit to a deuce with a bucket with six seconds remaining.
Bridgeport would then foul the Pilots’ Tucker Brown, but the senior forward who missed earlier on a 1-1, nailed both attempts for the games’ final points.
Pilot sophomore Jordan Indermuhle paced the Pilots with 15 points, while Ramsier followed with 12 markers and Brown with 10 points. Zack Wax and Potts each netted six markers, while Brett Price contributed two points. Potts hauled in a game-high 10 rebounds.
With the win, the Pilots will have advanced to the Ohio District IV tournament for the first time in four seasons against the number two ranked Highland, at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Meadowbrook High School. Results were not available by press time.
