River Boys Win Two; Girls Drop Two
The River Pilot Boys’ Basketball Team used a 20-13 run in the third period to defeat the Shadyside Tigers, 58-50, Dec. 3 at R.L. Potts Gymnasium.
After taking a 17-11 lead in the first period, the Pilots saw their lead evaporate to only a deuce at the break, 29-27.
However, the 3-3 Pilots went on its run to take a commanding lead heading into the final period. Shadyside would outscore River 10-9 in the final period, but it was a little too late.
Zack Wax paced the Pilots with a game-high 22 points, including five buckets from beyond the arch. Sammy Ramsier netted a Baker’s Dozen, while Tucker Brown and Jordan Indermuhle equally divided 20 markers. Jordan Potts scored three markers for the Red and Gray.
The Pilots had four players reach double-figures in beating Shenandoah 53-46 Jan. 7 at Shenandoah High School.
Ramsier, Brown, Wax, and Potts tallied 13, 12, 11, and 10 points, respectively, while Indermuhle and Stewart netted five and two points, respectively, for the red-hot Pilots.
The Lady Pilots made only 8-23 foul shots, sealing their fate against county rival Monroe Central Jan. 6 at R.L. Potts Gymnasium by the score of 42-39.
Alexa Isaly paced the home team with 14 markers, while Autumn Beisel tallied eight. Cassidy McCullough and Jordan Ramsay each netted seven points, while Megan Beard and Emile Weaver contributed a deuce and a free throw, respectively.
The Lady Seminoles made 14-21 charity tosses, while the Lady Pilots made five more baskets from the floor.
In one of the lowest scoring games this season, the undefeated Fort Frye Cadets beat the Lady Pilots’ 20-6 Jan. 10 at R.L. Gymnasium.
Laken Ramsay, Biesel, and McCullough each tallied two points for the Lady Pilots.
