Brittany Guthrie Leads ‘Jills To Pair Of Victories

Brittany Guthrie tallied a game-high 11 points, including a basket from beyond the arch, and added five steals to help lead the Valley Lumberjills to a 44-32 victory over Jefferson County Christian Jan. 8 at Martins Ferry High School.

Morgan Starkey put up 10 points, while Leah “Bam-Bam” Morris and Chelsea Underwood evenly split 14 markers. Morris also grabbed seven boards. Megan Bucher contributed a three pointer and a deuce, while hauling in six rebounds. Tiffany Hayes netted four points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

As a team, the ‘Jills had 17 steals, with Guthrie and Morris each hijacking five, while Underwood took away four to lead the ‘Jills in stolens.


The ‘Jills’ Guthrie connected on five baskets from beyond the arch, while scoring a game-high 21 points to lead Valley over Wood County Christian 45-40, Jan. 6 in Pine Grove.

Morris followed Guthrie with 10 points, four rebounds, and three steals, while Starkey contributed seven markers. Hayes added four points and pulled down a team-high eight boards, while Underwood netted 3-4 free throws.

Valley will lock horns with the Cameron Dragons Jan. 12 at the Dragons’ Nest and will try for a season sweep of Jefferson County Christian, Jan. 15 at Valley High School, with a junior varsity tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.
