Conaway And Cross Win Weekly Match Play Events

Brent Conaway won for the second time this year with a 258-214 victory over 82-year-old John Miller. Conaway won $75, compliments of weekly sponsor Radio Shack.

Conaway was the two-game winner and qualifier with a 192-263 for a 455 total. He edged Russ Gray, 204-196, in one semifinal, while Miller slipped by Kevin Lude 239-235 in the other semi. With his win, Conaway also moved back into first place on the Point List at 320. He is followed by Ron O’Neill Jr. at 270; Lloyd Cross, 250; Lil Miller at 190; and John Miller, 185.

The top 24 on the Point List qualify for the 33rd Annual Grand Finale with the top eight earning a first-round bye. Tournament sponsors Miller Lite, Buddy Light Accounting and Chuck Ludewig Insurance guarantee the finale’s top prize of $1,000.

Lloyd Cross became the second two-time champion this year by defeating Mike Hafer, 241-196, in this week’s championship match. Cross was also the two-game high qualifier with games of 205, 230 and 66 handicap for a 501 total. Cross won $75, compliments of weekly sponsor Fahey Insurance.

Cross eliminated Lil Miller, 228-201, in one semifinal, while Hafer ousted John Leek, 223-172, in the other semi. Ron O’Neil Jr. continues to lead the point list with 260 points, while Cross and Brent Conaway are tied at 240 points. Miller and Chet Richmond round out the top five with 180 and 170 points, respectively.
