Knowlton Signs With Hilltoppers
River Pilot Golfer Samantha Knowlton has signed to further her education and athletic career at West Liberty University after graduation. She will major in biology.
She is the third female golfer to play under the tutelage of River Head Coach Bob Cain.
Knowlton has golfed 20 nine-hole rounds with 876 strokes for a 43.8 average, with her lowest score being a 38. She has recorded the first-ever eagle by a female in River team history and has posted 10 birdies along the way to being named to the All-Tournament Team in the Ohio Valley Golf League. She also has earned honors by being selected to the First Team Eastern Division II Girls. Knowlton is the only female to qualify to the district tournament, doing it twice. She was a member of the OVGL Championship Team and the OVAC Class AA Championship Team. In addition, she is a member of the Pioneer Valley Conference All-Academic Team and a four year letter winner at River High School.
“Samantha will be a welcome addition to any college and it’s nice that she will continue her athletic career at West Liberty so I can watch her play,” said Cain. She has been golfing since she was a little girl and has been taking lessons from Moundsville Country Club Pro Brian Hamric since 2001.
She has a 4.07 GPA. Her school activities include French Club, Ski Club, and the National Honor Society. She loves horseback riding and is vice president of the Wetzel County 4-H Club. She has volunteered to coach soccer for four years and attends the Duffy Church of Christ.
She is the daughter of Don and Kathy Knowlton of Sardis and has a sister, Sierra. Her grandparents are Burton and Kathryn Knowlton of Paden City; Sally Powell of Paden City; and Sonny and Pam Powell of Sardis.
