Magnolia Netters End Season At Sectionals
The Magnolia Blue Eagle volleyball season is over after Weir and Oak Glen each defeated Magnolia in the Region One, Section One Tournament at Weir High School last week.
The Weir Lady Riders won the first two sets, 22-25 and 12-25, before the Eagles nipped them in the third set, 25-23. The Riders spanked the Big Blue 12-25 in the fourth set to win the match and sent the Eagles in the losers bracket against the Oak Glen Lady Golden Bears.
The Eagles squeaked out the first set, 25-23, before getting set back once more 12-25. Magnolia turned it up a notch and squeezed past the Oak 25-23, once again to claim a 2-1 advantage in the best of five sets.
The Lady Bears would then pull away, beating Magnolia 14-25 in the fourth set and 6-15 in the tie-breaker to end their season.
Mallory Chapman paced the Lady Eagles with 47 points, seven aces, 16 kills, three blocks, and 32 digs, while Emily Blake netted 27 points, three kills, and 15 digs. Lauren Cline tallied 25 points, including a service ace, while Makenzie Dawson added 16 digs. The Eagles’ lone senior, Lacey Jackson, scored 23 points, two aces, 13 kills, six blocks, and 19 digs in her last high school match. Jordan Babe tallied 22 points, 12 kills, and had 18 blocks, 13 of them against Oak Glen. Marissa Bosley finished the Lady Eagle scoring with 20 points, including four aces, eight kills, and seven digs.
