Wildcats Rock Cee-Bees; Claim OVAC?Class A Runnerup Crown
In a warmup to the OVAC Volleyball Tournament, Paden City rocked the Clay-Battelle Cee-Bees in two matches, 25-21, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-18 in match one, while blanking them in match two, 25-10, 25-18 and 25-18.
In the opening match Oct. 13 in Blakesville, Paden City had six girls scoring in double-digits, with five of them gaining double-doubles and four of them with double-digit kills.
Megan Cutlip led the way with 19 points, two aces, two assists, nine digs and 11 kills, while the duo of Dominique Craft and Amanda Heasley combined for 24 points, four service aces, 12 digs and 27 kills.
‘Italian Filly’ Chairo Di Leo tacked on 15 points, three assists, eight digs and blasted 11 kills. Logan Cosper scored 14 points and had six digs, while Kelsey Loy added a pair of digs and kills. Last, but surely not least, Lynsee Parsons netted 16 points and six digs, while assisting on 40-82 set points.
Against the Lady Irish of Clarksburg Notre Dame, Parsons led the way with 21 points that included four service aces and three digs. She also added 30 assists on 70 sets, to help PCHS win the second match in straight sets.
Craft added 17 points, 12 digs and nine kills, while Cutlip netted 14 points and 11 kills for their second consecutive double-double.
Cutlip also added five aces and four digs. Cosper scored 14 points and 10 digs to make it a clean sweep with every starter netting double-doubles in the two matches. Heasley and Di Leo teamed for 15 points, 21 digs and 12 kills, while Loy came off the bench to add one dig and one kill.
In the OVAC Class A Championships Oct. 16 in Steubenville, Paden City beat Weirton Madonna in the semifinal in two straight sets, 25-9 and 25-19, before losing back-to-back matches to OVAC Class A Champions Bellaire St. John in three sets, 10-25, 25-19 and 19-25.
Against Madonna, Cutlip led the charge with 18 points, three aces, two digs and seven kills. Di Leo was the only other Lady ‘Cat in double figures with 10 points. She also added one assist, 10 digs and four kills.
The rest of the Wildcat scoring came from Craft with eight; Parsons with six, Cosper with five; and Heasley with three.
In the three-set championship, Paden City was led by Parsons. She had 78 sets, 20 assists, two digs, one kill, while scoring a team-high 12 points. Di Leo followed with 11 points, two assists, seven digs and five kills. Cosper netted nine points for Paden City, while contributing six digs.
Heasley added eight points, four digs and nine kills; Craft added five points, 11 digs and six kills, while Cutlip ended the Wildcat scoring with two points. She also added five digs and tied Heasley with a team-high nine kills.
“We’re very proud of our girls, considering that we have no seniors, while playing three sophomores,” said PCHS Head Coach Fred King. “Its been a fun year because no one except us expected us to do this well. “Now, we have to get ready for the Mason-Dixon Tournament.
“We won the regular season title and now we have to get ready for the tournament and our sectionals. This is a great venue for what is coming. This OVAC Tournament is really super and we are proud to have been a part of it.”
