Casey Pingley Runs For 272 Yards In 49-20 Loss To Frontier Cougars

By Staff | Oct 20, 2010

Valley Lumberjack Casey Pingley rushed for a career-high 272 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough to get by the Frontier Cougars, who won the Oct. 15 contest 49-20.

The homestanding Cougars scored two touchdowns in the opening period to take a 14-0 lead that included a sizzling 79-yard TD scamper by Reid Tilton. Frontier tallied another TD in the second period before the Lumberjacks’ Garrett Ueltschy scored a TD on a six-yard scamper. Jon Smallwood caught the two point conversion pass from Ueltschy to reduce Valley’s deficit 21-8 at the break.

The Cougars scored on a 55-yard pass and a 50-yard run to start the third period before Pingley made a run at history. He went the distance in the third period from 90 yards away and scored the ‘Jacks’ final tally from 60 yards out.

Valley rushed for 340 yards and had two more first downs than Frontier, but the Cougars scored on more big plays than the Lumberjacks did and that proved to be the difference.

Smallwood had three quarterback sacks and five tackles to lead the way defensively, while Clay Ueltschy hauled down 10 Cougars. Cody Price added nine tackles and Davie Sivert corralled seven.

Besides Pingley’s near-school record of 272 yards rushing, Drew Wade added 43 yards, Garrett Ueltschy 31 yards, Hunter Ring had 21 yards and Kody Jenkins scrambled for 11 yards.

It doesn’t get any easier for the Lumberjacks. They will the undefeated Bishop Donahue Oct. 22 at Tom West Field in Pine Grove.
