Cubbie Outfielder Has Local Ties
Chicago Cubs outfielder Tyler Colvin hit a three-run home run in St. Louis to propel the “Cubbies” past the Cardinals Sept. 15.
According to the New York Times, Colvin is a candidate for “Rookie of the Year” in the National League.
Colvin is affianced to Magnolia graduate Molly Corliss, daughter of Charlie and Casey Corliss of New Martinsville. The couple met when they both were attending Clemson University in South Carolina. An October wedding is planed.
Colvin is the first man in the “show” with local connections since Reader’s Clarence Garrett pitched for the Cleveland Indians in the WWII era.
On Sept. 19, Colvin was on third base against the Florida Marlins when part of a broken bat struck him and pierced his chest. According to a Cubs spokeswoman, Colvin is expected to be out for the remainder of the season.
