Mountaineers, 3-0; Beat Terps

The West Virginia Mountaineers moved to 3-0 on the season after knocking off the Maryland Terripans 31-17 Sept 18 in Morgantown.

The Mountaineers Geno Smith was 19-29 for 268 yards and four touchdowns. Stedman Bailey and Tavon Austin each hauled in two TDs a piece. Austin caught a career-high seven passes for 106 yards, while Bailey caught six for 60 yards. Jock Sanders also caught six passes for 86 yards.

Noel Devine had 130 yards rushing for his third straight 100 yard game.

On defense the Jeff Casteel-led team had seven quarterback sacks, with Bruce Irvin getting three sacks himself. The staunch WVU defense held the Terps to minus-10 yards in the game. Maryland did have 227 yards passing.

WVU moved the chains 24 times, while the Terps moved them only nine times.

The Mountaineers play Sept. 25 at LSU before hosting UNLV on Oct. 9.
