By Staff | Sep 15, 2010

The River Pilots have created quite a stir to start the 2010 golf campaign and have had swinging success.

River has looked quite impressive with its dominance from the greens. In the last couple matches – Aug. 26 and Aug. 30 – the Pilots defeated the likes of John Marshall, Fort Frye, Bishop Donahue, and twice beat Magnolia, while tying Buckeye Trail and Union Local.

Jesse Merckle led the Pilots with a score of 38 at Riverside Golf Course, while Zack Wax was nearly flawless on Aug. 30, also at Riverside.

Following Merckle with the lowest score for the Pilots was Curtis with a 39, while Wax and Samantha Knowlton each recorded a 40.

Following Wax in the scoring department Aug. 30 was Knowlton with a 43, while Curtis nailed a 45 and Merckle a 46 to help the Pilots win or share the victory.

The River Pilots golf team knocked off the Magnolia Blue Eagles and the Barnesville Shamrocks 162, 169 and 191, respectively, Sept. 9 at Fairway Riverside Golf Course.

The Pilots Wax shot a one under par to lead the Pilots with a 35, while teammates Curtis, (39); Merckle, (43); and Miller, (45) all shot well in the victory. The Eagles were led by Emch (39); Simmons (40); Myers (43); and Diefenbauch (47).

The Pilots and the Eagles will be playing in the OVAC Class AA and Class AAA, respectively, this week. River will get back into action at Sistersville Country Club against Tyler Consolidated and Williamstown Sept. 17. The Eagles will also play at Sistersville Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. on Parents Night.
