Blue Eagle Netters Return One Senior
With the 2010 volleyball season fast approaching, the Magnolia Blue Eagles will have to replace five starters from a season ago in Alexajo Hanna, Annie Potts, Lindsay Cain, Kelsey Heasley, and Kristen Miller, who have graduated.
However, MHS Head Coach Pam Chapman has been coaching volleyball for a long time and has seen it all before. Chapman has returning letterman Lacy Jackson to control the nets. Jackson is a hard-hitter that many colleges from all over the country are looking at.
Not only can Jackson spike the ball, she is an excellent server and an outstanding leader and motivator.
Also back is Abi Harlan, who has seen plenty of time at the nets. Although she isn’t penciled in to start, she will she plenty of action once the game gets started. Other players who saw some action last season include Jordan Babe and Marissa Bosley.
Babe and Bosley are a lot like Jackson. They are both competitors and will give Chapman another go-to girl, if needed, and will only get better as the season progresses.
Joining the group of go-getters are Emily Blake and Makenzie Dawson. Blake will be the team’s Libero, while Dawson will be the team’s setter.
New to the team is freshman Makenzie Chapman, who will play the front line and has the killer instinct like Jackson.
Rounding out the varsity squad are Courtney Babe and Alivia Mellott. Courtney will play the back row, while Mellott will give the front line a breather from time to time.
Magnolia has had a successful volleyball team for several years and hopes it can give regional teams like Tyler Consolidated, Weir, Oak Glen, and Ritchie County more than they can handle by the end of the season.
Magnolia opens the season on the road Sept. 7 against Linsly at 6 p.m. and will host Wheeling Park on Sept. 9, also at 6 p.m. in the Magnolia HammerDome.
