Eagle Boys’ Track Team Fall In Regional By One Point, 107-106
The Magnolia Blue Eagle Boys’ Track Team lost the Region Championship by one point to hosts Ritchie County 107-106, May 13.
The Eagles 4×100 meter team and their 4×200 meter teams captured first place, while the 4×400 squad and the 4×800 quartet finished second to help give the Eagles some nice points. Eagle thinclad Brendan Kacor jumped 21’1.75 to claim the long jump title, while placing third in the 100 meter run.
Matt Riggs, Nathan Harshberger and Joe Feeney each came in second place in the 3,200 meter run, the boys’ discus, and the 1,600 meter run, respectively. Stephen Rogalski finished third in the high jump and Riggs placed third in the shot put. Alec Hinerman and Bill Feeney finished third and fourth place, respectively, in the 3,200 meter run, while Harshberger placed fourth in the 1,600 meter run.
The Eagles Boys’ Track Team has been ranked near the top of Class AA in the state all season and has a legitimate shot to make noise in Charleston May 21-22.
The Eagle 4×100 meter team is ranked first in the state, while the Silver Knights are 1.10 seconds behind, making for a thrilling event to watch at the state track meet.
The Eagles 4×200 Meter Team also claims the best time in Class AA, while Brendan Kacor is has the second best leap in the long jump. Matt Riggs also has the second best toss in both the shot and discus.
Magnolia, Paden City, Valley and Tyler Consolidated high schools have realistic chances to bring home individual and team medals from the 2010 state championships.

The Magnolia quartet of Emily Patterson, Emily Amos, Brittany Leek and Holly McDonald defeated Tyler Consolidated by a thrilling .25 seconds to win the 4×102.5 shuttle relay in the Region One Championships at Ritchie County May 13, thereby claiming a spot in the West Virginia State Track Meet May 21-21 in Charleston.
Magnolia tallied 42 points for a fifth place finish, while the Silver Knight girls claimed third place, with Weir taking the top spot in the Region I Championships.
McDonald and Patterson each finished in second place in both the long jump and the 100 meter relay.
The 4×800 meter team finished fourth, as did Ally Childers in the high jump. The Eagles’ Jennifer Emch, Christa Harshberger, and Brittany Leek each claimed fifth in the 400 meter run, 3,200 meter run and the 100 meter hurdles.
The MHS Girls’ Shuttle Team has the best time in the state at 109.10, while the Lady Silver Knights are .20 seconds behind for second best time.
Childers has the best jump in Class AA with a leap of 5’2. The shuttle team and Childers look to have a shot to win first place at Laidley Field in Charleston May 21-22.

All five of the Paden City Girls’ relay teams qualified for the West Virginia State Track Meet in Charleston May 21-22, where they won the top spot in both the 4×200 meter relay team and the shuttle relay. As a team, the Lady Wildcats finished with 74 points – good enough for fourth place in Region I Class A rankings, while the Valley ‘Jills tallied 29 points for sixth place.
The Lady ‘Cats won the Mason-Dixon Conference title this season and have their eyes set on bigger and better things in Charleston. The foursome of Stephanie West, Amanda Tallman, Taylor Parsons and Allison Bertozzi finished the 4×200 meter relay with a time of 1:57.82, while their Shuttle team of Tallman, Parsons, Megan Cutlip and Amanda Sellers crossed the finishing line with a time of 1:09.01.
However, the Lady Wildcats 4×100 meter relay team of Bertozzi, Tallman, Parsons and Sellers placed runner-up, while the 4×400 and the 4×800 meter relay teams each placed third. In the meantime, Sellers crossed the finish line in second place in both the 100 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles.
The ‘Cats’ Megan Lasure heaved the shot put 26’6 to claim second place, while finishing fifth in the discus. Besides placing in three relay events, Tallman would cross the finish line in fifth place in the 300 meter hurdles. Also placing fifth for Paden City was Stephanie West in the 100 meter Dash; Megan Cutlip in the 400 meter dash; and Erika Sapp in the 1,600 meter run.
Valley Lumberjill Danette Hayes won the long jump with a leap of 14’9.5, while Tristen Willey placed third in the long jump and fifth in the high jump. Jade Starkey came in third in the 100 meter hurdles. Cassie Ueltschy and Allyson Ashcraft each placed fifth in the shot and long jump, respectively.
The Valley Lumberjack boys tallied 58 points for fourth place in Class A Region I, while Paden City netted 49 points to claim the sixth spot.
When you think Malakai Anderson you usually think of football, basketball or football, but never track. That’s because this three-sport standout hasn’t attempted track – until this season. You can now make him a four-sport standout, as Anderson won the 400 meter dash and the long jump. However, he also was on the 4×200 meter team along with teammates Josh Bennett, Braxton Herrick and Taylor Still that finished .02 seconds in front of Valley to win the event.
Still claimed third place in the 400 meter dash and third place n the 200 meter dash, while finishing fourth in the 100 meter dash. The Wildcats 4×100 meter relay team finished in third place, while Josh Bennett placed fifth in the long jump.
The Lumberjack foursome of Matthew Poling, Dylan Edgell, Williams Streets and Casey Pingley brought home the gold in the 4×100 meter relay, while the same guys finished .02 seconds behind Paden City in the 4×200 meter relay. The ‘Jacks’ 4×400 meter relay and their 4×800 meter relay teams both finished fifth.
Pingley and William Streets both finished second in the 100 meter dash and the 400 meter dash, respectively.
Valley strongman Spencer Mason finished second to Aaron Schnied in the shot put and third in the discus, while Bradley Mason claimed fifth place in the shot put.
The Lumberjack 4×400 meter relay and their 4×800 meter relay teams each finished in fifth place.
