Conaway Wins Match Play Championship

By Staff | May 19, 2010

Brent Conaway, in a match between the top two bowlers on the Point List, defeated Christina Hull 209-202 to the $1,000 championship. The last game was a classic, coming down to the last shot. Conaway, who trailed after four frames, made a ball and angle change and struck on seven of the last eight shots to force Hull to double in the 10th and set up an exciting finish. However, Hull could get only a nine count, settled for the $500 second place prize money.

Shawn DuVall was the two-game high qualifier with 256-258 for a 514. Hull eliminated past champion Rich Erlewine, 220-189, in one semi final, while Conaway ousted former past champion Gary Isner 247-212 in the other semi final.

Hull also won $100 for the Point List Championship, while Conaway won $75 for second place. In all, $2,670 was paid out during the Grand Finale and approximately $8,000 for the year.

The event and Point List was once again sponsored by Miller Lite; Capital Beverage; Buddy Light Accounting; and Chuck Ludewig Insurance.

Conaway became the 53rd bowler to win $1,000 or more at Bruce Lanes in New Martinsville.

Plans are being made for the 33rd Annual Ohio Valley Match Play Tournament. More information on the Match Play can be found on the web at www.brucelanes.com.
