Eagles Sweep Knights In Sectional
Blue Eagle hurlers Tori Tharp and Alexajo Hanna combined on a perfect game in the second game of a double header sweep, en route to a convincing 11-0 victory against Tyler Consolidated May 7 in New Martinsville.
Tharp struck out nine and walked one in the opener, while Magnolia’s offense tattooed Silver Knight pitching for 10 runs in the second frame to win 11-0.
Dallas Mullett reached on a Knight error to start the first inning and scored the game’s first run on a one-out double by Marissa Bosley.
After holding the Silver Knights scoreless in the second, the Eagles responded with a 10-spot to break the game wide open with a 11-0 lead that they never relinquished
Kelsi Heasley walked to open the second and trotted to third on a Jordan Babe single. The bases were full after Emily Blake walked and Mullett would plate both Heasley and Babe with a double to the fence. After an out, Bosley walked to load the bases once more and Blake scored on a sacrifice fly by Tharp. Abbey Horner walked to reload the bases and Andrea Lockhart drilled a two-out single to plate both Mullett and Bosley.
Heasley. who opened up the inning, cleared the bases with a triple and scored when the Knights couldn’t handle Babe’s grounder. Blake doubled to score Babe and Mullett scored Blake with her second hit of the inning.
In game two, it was all Tharp and Hanna on the mound, while the Eagle bats got lot of work scoring five runs in the second and three more in the third and fourth innings for another magnolia 11-0 victory.
Magnolia scored five of their runs in the second when Lockhart walked and stole second, whereupon Heasley singled home Lockhart. Heasley scored on a Babe hit that Tyler Consolidated mishandled for an error. Blake singled and Mullett walked to load the bases. Hanna got an easy RBI when she walked, forcing home Babe. Bosley doubled to score both Blake and Mullett. Tharp walked to reload the bases, but they all three were left stranded.
Magnolia scored three more runs in the third, when Heasley doubled, but was put out trying to stretch it into a triple. Babe followed with a single, but was also erased on a Blake fielder’s choice. Mullett walked and Hanna helped her cause with an RBI single. Bosley drilled the next pitch to the gap, scoring both Bosley and Hanna with a hustling triple.
Magnolia scored the final three runs in the fourth. Horner opened the frame with a solo home run. Lockhart singled, but was thrown out at second by a nice throw by the Knights’ outfield. Heasley reached on an error and would score on a Babe double. Blake walked and Babe scored on a Morgan Miller ground out.
The win put the Eagles into regional play at home against Weir Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with the winner advancing into the regional finals against either Ritchie County or Point Pleasant High School, TBA.
