VHS?Lumberjack Track Team Fares Well In Charleston Gazette Relays

The Valley boys’ track team competed in the Charleston Gazette Relays in Charleston on April 30-May 1. Spencer Mason started the meet off on Friday night, taking third place in the discus with a throw of 118’4″. In addition, he took home the gold in the shot put on Saturday, with a first-place throw of 44’5.5″. Bryan Sell had a toss of 37’7.5″ in the meet.

Casey Pingley qualified in the 100 meter dash on Friday and finished fourth with a time of 11.95 on Saturday. Billy Streets and Dylan Edgell competed in the 400 meter dash. Streets ran a 55.02 to take the sixth place spot while Edgell ran a 55.87. Matthew Poling, who also runs this event, moved over to the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.01.

Poling, Edgell, Streets and Pingley all ran the 4×100, 4×200 and the 4×400 relays at the event and placed second in the 4×100 (46.70) and the 4×200 (1:37.75) relays. They also placed fourth in the 4×400 with a time of 3:49.

In the high jump, Shawn Miller cleared 5’4′ and Davie Sivert had a jump on 5’2″. Miller also long jumped with a mark of 16’9.5″.

The ‘Jacks came in seventh place overall at the meet. They will compete in the OVAC on May 3 and May 5 at Shadyside and will run their regionals at Wheeling Park on Wednesday, May 12.
