Lady Pilots Drop Shamrocks, 7-3

By Staff | May 6, 2010

The River Pilots’ Softball Team has been on a roller-coaster ride for much of the season and April 27 was a high point as they scored six runs in the second inning to beat the Barnesville Shamrocks 7-3. The Shamrocks dropped to 9-8 on the season, while the Lady Pilots improved to 4-16.

After a scoreless first inning and a half, the Pilots scored six runs after two outs. After a lead off strike out, Renae Riley singled and Victoria Brandon walked. After another strike out, Linsey Goddard walked to load the bases. Chelsea Wax lofted a towering hit that bounced off the top of the fence for a stand-up double that scored two runs.

Tanya Altizer walked to load the bases once more. Courtney Gates walked to bring home a run and Brianna Cook singled to knock in the sixth run of the inning. Rachel Beisel reached on an error and Riley, who started the rally, grounded out to end the inning.

River scored an insurance run in the fifth. Riley was the pitcher of record for the Pilots. She struck out nine and walked two, while belting a pair of singles. Wax doubled in two runs, while Cook added an RBI single and Gates had an RBI.
