Lady Eagles Shutout Silver Knights And Dragons
Magnolia’s Emily Blake lined a single in the bottom of the sixth frame to score teammate Andrea Lockhart, who earlier singled, for the game-ending mercy-rule 10-0 contest against Tyler Consolidated at the Hydro Field on April 21.
Magnolia hurler Tori Tharp struck out the side to open the game. The Eagles would score a pair of runs on one hit, when Dallas Mullett opened their half of the first with a liner that short-hopped the Knights infield for an error. She moved to second base on a wild pitch, when teammate Marissa Bosley walked. Tharp smacked a stand-up double to score both Mullett and Bosley for a 2-0 Magnolia lead.
Tharp would sit down the Lady Knights and would get out of trouble a few times by nice catches in the outfield. She struck out seven and walked only two, while giving up singles to Knights Torre Cline in the third, Amanda Goodfellow in the fourth, and Sami Jones in the sixth.
Magnolia added a run in the third when Abbey Horner doubled and Kelsi Heasley brought her home when she smacked a two-out double to the fence. Three more Blue Eagle runs crossed the plate in the fourth and fifth before Lockhart ended the game in the sixth, scoring on Blake’s single.
In the fourth Blake drilled a double to start the inning and Alexajo Hanna walked. Tharp clobbered a two-out single that scored Blake and Hanna. Horner cleared the bases when she drilled a ball to the fence before being gunned down on a nice relay throw to Jones at the plate.
In the fifth inning Lockhart reached on an error, Heasley singled and Jordan Babe also reached first on the second Knight error of the inning that loaded the bases. Blake flew out to deep left and brought home a run on a sacrifice fly. Mullett drilled a single that scored two more runs for the final points of the inning.
Horner, swinging a hot bat of late, drilled a double and a triple to lead the 13-hit Eagle attack, while Tharp, Heasley, and Blake each pounded a single and double. Lockhart added a pair of singles, while Hanna and Babe each provided a single.

Blue Eagle sophomore flame thrower Tori Tharp struck out 15 Lady Dragon batters and tossed a complete, two-hit, 1-0 shutout of Cameron in game one of a double-header April 20 at Hydro Park.
Magnolia got to the Cameron hurler, Tara Paczewski, who also pitched a jem in striking out seven and giving up only two hits. However, the Eagles were fortunate to get both of their hits in the same frame to manufacture their lone tally.
For four-and-a-half innings, the Cameron sophomore pitcher threw blanks and was only nine outs away from a no hitter. But, the Eagles’ Abbey Horner doubled to start the home-half of the fifth to get the first hit of the game for Magnolia. After a wild pitch that moved her only 65 feet away from home plate, Andrea Lockhart would knock Horner home for the only run of the game.
Each time the Lady Dragons would get base runners in scoring position, Tharp would answer the door and shut it right back in their face to disarm the visitors of any chances. Cameron left seven base runners on, including six that made it into scoring position.
“Tori is such a competitor and a great athlete. She thrives when she is behind in the count and when she is in tough situations,” said Magnolia Head Coach Mark Batton.
“I really think it brings out the best in her when she has to throw strikes and get outs.”
