‘Cats Split With Cougars

The Paden City Wildcats baseball team split a double header with the Frontier Cougars April 10 in New Matamoras, winning the opener, 11-9, and losing the nightcap, 4-12.
In the opener, the ‘Cats scored a pair of runs in the top of the first and one more in the third frame before erupting for six runs in the fourth to gain the nod. Josh Bennett earned the win, striking out seven and walking two, while Malakai Anderson earned the save, striking out three and issuing no passes.
Zach Yost singled and tripled, while Bennett helped the cause with a single and a double. He also knocked in three runs. Trey Leonard got into the act, plating a pair of teammates with a pair of singles. Mitchell Stewart, Malakai Anderson and Taylor Still each singled for the Good Guys.
In the nightcap, the ‘Cats held a 4-3 lead until the Cougars erupted for nine runs in the last two innings to gain a 12-4 victory.
Bennett picked up the loss in relief of Stewart. Anderson knocked in a pair of runs on a double, while Bennett smacked a single and a double. Mitchell and Jared Stewart each pounded out singles for the ‘Cats.
