Lady Hornets Finish Season
Hundred Lady Hornet senior Jordyn Gorby lit up the Weirton Madonna Fieldhouse for 25 points, including a trio of baskets from beyond the arc on Feb. 20 in the Region One Sectional.
Following a 16-16 tie after eight minutes of play, the Lady Blue Dons would score four more points than Hundred to take the lead at the break.
Madonna got the Lady Hornets in foul trouble and pushed their advantage to 52-42 after three periods of play. They also secured their place in the sectional semi with a 69-55 victory.
Gorby led the Hundred charge with 25 points, while Macy Woods added 15 points that included a pair of three point baskets. Raven McDiffitt, fighting foul trouble most of the game, was held to five points, while Lindsay Burley netted four markers. Katie Tennant also contributed to the points, as did Emily Ebert and Rachel Ashcraft, who added a deuce and a free throw, respectively.
The Hornets will lose starter Gorby and reserve Ashcraft to graduation in the fall, but will bring back starters McDiffitt, Woods, Burley, and Tennant along with the entire bench. “We will fill the spot, but we can’t replace Gorby,” said Hornet Head Coach Mike Ray.
