The Cameron Lady Dragons netted a pair of charity tosses with three seconds left in regulation to defeat the Valley Lumberjills, 44-43 and advance to the Region One Sectional in Cameron Feb. 20.

The Lady Dragons came out smokin’ in the opening period to take an eight point lead and pushed their advantage to 10 points by the break.

After the break, Valley used a tenacious defense to climb back into the game, holding the Dragons to one bucket, while netting 11 of their own. In the fourth, period the ‘Jills and Dragons went back and forth like a heavyweight fight. The ‘Jills had the lead, but they were called for a foul and Cameron made two free-throws to win.

VHS juniors Brittany Guthrie and Morgan Starkey each tallied 13 points, including a threeball, to lead the Lumberjills, while fellow junior Tiffany Hayes added eight markers.

The ‘Jills’ lone senior, Jackie Greathouse, netted five points, including a basket from beyond the arc, while Leah Morris and Heidi Shaw each contributed a deuce.
