By Staff | Feb 10, 2010

The streaking Hundred Hornets fell behind 30-16 in the first half against Jefferson Morgan, but responded with a 41-point second half to humble their guests, 57-51, Feb. 1 inside the Hornets’ Nest.

Emery Smith tallied 21 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Hornets to their eighth victory and keep them in the hunt for the OVAC Championship.

Logan “Flash” McDiffitt and Jesse Gorby teamed for 24 points, that included a pair of three point baskets by McDiffitt, while Zach “Sunshine” Phillips netted eight markers and Brady Koontz four points for Hundred.

After a slow start, the Hundred Hornets raced out to a 16-7 lead and Dalton Kuhn and Logan McDiffitt equally divided 44 points to help Hundred slay the Cameron Dragons 82-55 in a Mason-Dixon and OVAC match-up.

Cameron won their first match-up of the season in a close battle, but even without the services of a starter handled the Dragons quite easily throughout, while racing out to a 16-7 lead after period one.

In the second period, the Hornets swarmed all over the Dragons, stinging them with everything they had to extend their advantage to 40-19 at the break.

Both offenses came to play in the second half, but the Hornets had enough venom in their stinger to put the Dragons to rest and keep alive their hopes of an OVAC title in their first year of eligibility.

Kuhn swished four baskets from beyond the arc, while netting 22 points. Logan McDiffitt also scored 22 points that included one from long range. Emery Smith also scored in double figures with 10 points, while Zach Phillips netted eight points and kept the Hornets on the move with his and Smith’s outlet passes off defensive rebounds.

Tyrell Watson tallied five points, including a triple, while Roger Stalnaker came off the bench late in the game and netted four points, along with Brady Koontz. Mitch Moore also gave the Hornets a lift with a three-point basket, while Chris Shackleford netted both his charity tosses.
