Hornets Rout ‘Cats, 65-46

By Staff | Jan 28, 2010

Raven McDiffitt scored half of Hundred’s 30 points in the opening half en route to a 65-46 victory over Paden City Jan. 20 in the Hornet’s Nest.

McDiffitt followed up a Macy Woods’ three point attempt with a deuce for the game’s first basket. The Wildcats’ Alli Bertozzi took a pass from teammate Megan Cutlip and was fouled on her attempt, making both charity shots. After a Hornet turnover, McDiffitt hauled in a ‘Cat miss and tossed it to a driving Jordyn Gorby for an easy bucket. Woods would then steal the ball and hit Lindsay Burley for a basket to push the Hornet advantage to 6-2.

After another Wildcat turnover, McDiffitt drove into the lane for a left-handed lay up. However, Bertozzi put back a missed Lady ‘Cat shot to cut the lead in half, 8-4.

After a couple misses and turnovers by each team, McDiffitt swiped a ball and dished it off to Gorby, who sunk a three pointer. At the end of one period of play, Hundred held a 16-8 advantage.

Neither team scored in the first minute and a half of the second period, when Hundred senior Rachel Ashcraft pulled down a rebound and fired it to Gorby, who was open for an easy bucket.

The ‘Cats countered with a basket by Amanda Tallman, who was fouled in the act and nailed the charity toss for a three-point play. Cutlip tallied 4-5 free throws in the period, while Tallman sank a threeball. Hundred’s Woods also hit a trifecta to put her team on top 30-17 at the end of the quarter.

After a Paden City miss to start the second half, Gorby connected from downtown and Tallman answered that with a deuce. Ten different players tallied points in the third period of action, with Hundred pushing its lead to 46-29 after three periods.

The combination of McDiffitt and Woods pushed the Lady Hornets score to as much as 28 points, but the never-say-die Wildcats clawed their way back. Cutlip scored seven points in the period, while Tallman, Bertozzi, Erika Sapp and Jondrak Khunisorn each contributed points.

McDiffitt led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for a double-double. She also made six steals and blocked five Wildcat shots. Gorby had a quiet 15 points, including a pair of baskets from beyond the arc, while Woods contributed 14 points and two three pointers.

Other Hornets contributing points included Burley with six points, Ashcraft with four markers, Katie Tennant three tallies and Hayley Hayes two points.

Paden City was led by Tallman with 17 points, including a pair of three point baskets, while Cutlip contributing a dozen markers. Bertozzi scored 11 points for Paden City, while Sapp added four points and Khunisorn knocked down a deuce.
