Hornets Hold Off ‘Jacks

Hundred’s Dalton Kuhn drilled five three-point baskets to lead the Hornets to a 65-42 victory over the Valley Lumberjacks on Jan. 22 in a jam-packed Valley gymnasium.

Hundred took a 15-6 lead after one period of play, but the ‘Jacks responded with a 12-9 run in the second to close the gap to 24-18 at the break.

Valley opened the third period with six straight points, before Kuhn drilled a threeball for Hundred. The period ended with the Hornets upping their lead by a deuce. Emery Smith started the fourth period with a driving layup. But, the Lumberjacks wouldn’t go away and climbed back into the game, trailing by only six points.

Smith added another layup and Kuhn drilled another three to put the game out of reach for Valley, while both teams’ reserves finished the game.

Eight Hornets scored with three reaching double-doubles. Kuhn led the Hornet charge with 21 points and 10 rebounds; Emery Smith added 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Logan McDiffitt netted 12 points, 10 steals and five assists.

Tyrell Watson added eight points, while Zach Phillips netted five markers. Mitch Moore, Brady Koontz and Shane Kuhn each tallied points for Hundred.

Valley’s Alex Henderson led the ‘Jacks with 13 markers, including a basket from beyond the arc, while Ronald Morris tallied nine markers. Matthew Poling chipped in with eight points, while Garrett Ueltschy contributed six points.

The rest of the Valley scoring had Jeremiah Burch with three; Scotty Anderson with two; and Clay Ueltschy with one point. Morris had eight boards, while Poling had five assists and a pair of steals.
