Lady Eagles Drop Two
The Magnolia Lady Eagles dropped two games in the Parkersburg Catholic Holiday Tournament Dec. 29-30, despite 56 points by sophomore point guard Padyn Ludwig.
In the opener against Eastern, Ludewig tallied 27 points, including one basket from beyond the arc, while swishing 14-18 charity tosses. But, her heroics went for naught, as Eastern pulled away in the two middle periods to gain the 78-54 victory.
Jordan Babe followed Ludewig with three treys on her way to a 13-point night, while Marissa Bosley and Tori Tharp each netted four. Lindsay Cain added three points, while Krista Emch and Alivia Mellott tallied two and one point, respectively.

In the consolation matchup, Ludewig drilled 29 points against Belpre, including one from downtown, and Bosley added 27 markers, including a pair of baskets from beyond the arc. But, it wasn’t enough, as the Belpre defense held the rest of the team to two baskets in a 75-64 victory.
Ludewig pulled out all the stops in trying to get the Eagles a win. Besides scoring 29 points, she had seven assists and six steals and was rewarded with a place on the all-tournament team.
Babe and Tharp combined for five points, while Cain hauled in a career-high 16 rebounds.
The Lady Eagles have a few days off to regroup before they travel to Ritchie to take on the Runnin’ Rebels Jan. 7. They return to host the Wheeling Central Lady Maroon Knights, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m.
