‘Jacks Slay Dragons

By Staff | Jan 6, 2010

The Valley duo of Matthew Poling and Jeremiah Burch combined for 33 points and helped hold off a gallant effort by the Cameron Dragons to help the ‘Jacks claim a hard fought 66-63 victory that gave Valley Head Coach John Kocher his 100th victory. It happened in Cameron, Dec. 29.

After the ‘Jacks took a 13-9 advantage to start the game, the Dragons went on an 18-15 run to narrow the gap to one point at the break.

The Dragons held off the Lumberjacks in the third and took the lead entering the final period of play, up by one. But, the Lumberjacks tallied a game-high 23 points in the fourth period to gain their fourth win of the season.

Poling led the way with 18 points – 12 of which came in the decisive fourth period – while stripping five Dragons of the ball. Burch delivered 15 markers, including a trio of three pointers. Alex Henderson was held to nine points, while Clay Ueltschy and Ronald Morris netted eight and seven points, respectively.

Others who chipped in points included Garrett Ueltschy with five points and Josh Highly and Dustin Bickerstaff, each adding two points.

Henderson and Bickerstaff paced the ‘Jacks with eight rebounds, while Morris hauled in six boards before fouling out.

The Lumberjacks will travel for a 7 p.m. matchup with the powerful Bishops Donahue Jan. 8.
