Class AA Cheerleading Competition Postponed
The state Secondary School Activities Commission says it’s postponing the Class AA Cheerleading Champion-ship that was to be held Dec. 12 at the Charleston Civic Center because of a lawsuit involving Tolsia High School.
The decision follows a Wayne County Circuit Court decision that restored Tolsia to second place in the regional tournament, qualifying the squad for the state tournament.
The commission says a penalty for an illegal and unsafe routine at regionals dropped Tolsia fourth and out of the state tournament. It’s considering appealing to the State Supreme Court.
Mike Ranson, a lawyer for Wayne County school board, says the circuit court ruled correctly that a regional tournament judge violated commission rules by seeking help from a spectator. Ranson called the postponement “outrageous.”
Class A and AAA tournament were held Saturday as scheduled.
There hasn’t been a time or date set yet for the West Virginia Class AA Championships.
