MHS Earns $2,500 In Contest

By Staff | Nov 11, 2009

State Farm Insurance Companies on Oct. 20 announced that Magnolia High School is one of 25 winners from around the country in the first half of Friday Night Feats, a national video contest on YouTube highlighting the biggest moments from this year’s high school football season.

Magnolia was awarded $2,500 and has a chance at a $15,000 grand prize for the video highlighting a play from the 2009 football season.

The videos that win $2,500 and advance to become “Finalist Nominees” of the fan-fueled football contest were determined by fan votes on YouTube during the first half of the contest, Sept. 14-Oct. 17.

Fans, athletes, and coaches still have a chance to show off their big plays by entering a video during second half of the contest which runs from Oct.18-Nov. 22. Anyone can submit videos to the State Farm Friday Night Feats YouTube site, www.youtube.com/fridaynightfeats, to be considered as the best Friday night feat of the 2009 high school football season.

At the end of the second half Nov. 22 a panel of qualified judges will narrow the field down to the top 10 videos from all the Finalist Nominees, based on the “wow” factor, athleticism, impact of the play, and creativity of the video, which will include a title and brief description of the play.

Viewers have the final word on choosing the prize winners by voting for their favorite on YouTube Dec. 3 until Dec. 10. The winners will be announced on Dec. 14.

Cash prizes for the top videos are $15,000 for the grand prize, $10,000 for the first place and $5,000 for the second place.
